The Scroll of Shadows

The Scroll of Shadows is a Southeast Asian–inspired magical‑realism series that follows twins Kavi and Kira as they learn about courage, honesty, empathy, and emotional growth through the guidance of the Layar Bayangan — an ancient shadow‑theater scroll that awakens whenever their hearts drift out of balance.

Each story begins with a small but meaningful dilemma: a moment of doubt, a misunderstanding, a burst of jealousy, a fear that grows too big, or a truth that feels too sharp to say aloud.

When these moments appear, the Layar Bayangan unfurls like moonlit silk, revealing living shadows that teach through movement, metaphor, and gentle wisdom. And always beside the twins is Sang Kancil, the clever mousedeer who interprets the shadows and helps them understand what their hearts are trying to say.

The Scroll of Shadows draws inspiration from Southeast Asian shadow‑theater traditions — silhouettes, puppetry, moral storytelling, and the idea that light and darkness can reveal truth.

To make the series accessible for children ages 7–10, these cultural elements are intentionally simplified:

  • The motifs are gentle, universal, and non‑specific

  • The symbolism is clear and easy to follow

  • The lessons focus on emotional truth, not historical complexity

  • The scroll’s magic is soft, atmospheric, and respectful
